This album is sacred. Not in an organized religion sense of the word. It is sacred as a work of art. It is foreign, familiar, revealing, and mysterious - in the best senses of those words. I can usually categorize or evaluate a song or album in 3 or 4 listenings. I'm on about my 4th listen through this whole album and this work of art surpasses my comprehensions. I suspect it will continue expanding as I listen to it over and over again. I suspect the more I listen to this album, the more likely I might come back and alter or add to this review. KT has a brilliant intellect and primal musical cores, diverse in their origins.
Living on a budget, I read several of the songs' lyrics online and couldn't decide whether to buy the album. It wasn't until a friend bought it and highly recommended it to me that I listened to the rest of the songs not being played on the radio. The radio songs become much better when considered in the arc and context of the whole album. The songs support, temper, and juxtapose each other. And the process of coming to this album reminded me how much I treasure friends' foreign and persuasive influences on me.
KT has a great voice to listen to and she is so talented!! You'll want to listen to her songs over and over again, and the tunes will stay in your head. I first heard "Suddenly i See" in The DEvil Wears Prada and i really liked her voice and the sound of it (Then i found out that all her other songs are pretty much just as good.) The best songs are Suddenly I See and Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. All the songs, however, are sung very well and they have enchanting lyrics to them, too. Her voice is not like most other singers--it has an edge to it that makes it sound new and interesting. This is a really great CD, once you start listening, you'll completely love it.
